Thoughts distract us from peace because peace is a feeling, not a thought. It is when the thoughts are quieted and at a distance that you can begin to notice the peaceful feeling within you. The thoughts never stop because they are on auto pilot but when you stop and focus on feeling your breath and the energy which is sustaining you then, with practice the thoughts begin to fade into the distance and you can go deeper into the quiet feeling within. Every human being needs a regular break or two daily from the onslaught of mental stimulation from this world, particularly in the age of technology and multiple forms of constant Media Information. We need to slow down our thoughts not speed them up. The more you focus on the peaceful feeling within the more sane, human and peaceful you will become.
